Tour Championship 2021 Odds, Picks & Tips To Win FedEx Cup

The PGA Tour Championship will be decided at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, as the top 30 players in FedEx Cup points play for a $15 million prize in a no-cut weekend.

Patrick Cantlay edged Bryson DeChambeau in a playoff at the BMW Championship on Sunday to secure the No. 1 spot on the Tour Championship leaderboard. That is significant – Cantlay begins first-round play on Thursday at -10, as the standings for the FedEx Championship offer a cushion to those who earned it over a long 2021 PGA season.

Despite the lead going into the opening hole, Cantlay (+400) is only No. 2 on the golf betting board at most betting sites. Jon Rahm (+350), who starts at -6, four strokes back of Cantlay, is favored in the latest golf odds to win the coveted season title.

DeChambeau, who starts at -7, is at +550 while Tony Finau, who won his first tournament in five years, two weeks ago at the Northern Trust, opens play at -8 and is posted at +700. According to sports betting apps, those are the only four legit contenders; no other golfer is better than +1400.

Tour Championship Expert Pick

Patrick Cantlay, Jon Rahm or Bryson DeChambeau to Win

Odds: -140 at DraftKings

Cantlay and Rahm are my two top picks to come out on top Sunday, and DeChambeau is my No. 3 choice. His driver is a game-changer, and this course can reward long, straight drives if the ball stays out of the bunkers near the greens.

Outside of those three, there are no other golfers starting within five strokes of the lead (Tony Finau, Cameron Smith, Jordan Spieth) I see contending, and I don’t think all three of those in this pick fade that dramatically. The odds are -140 at betting sites for one of these three to win, and I am taking it.

PGA Tour Championship Betting Tips

East Lake has hosted the Tour Championship since 2005. It’s long but it’s fairly straight, so strong and straight often wins the day, as was the case in 2020 when Dustin Johnson took home top honors by three strokes over Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele.

Green-side bunkers ensure that you can’t entirely grip it and rip it to glory. Many of these holes are long, too, so a record of success on par 4s of 450 yards or longer is a good indication for success, as is the proximity of longer approach shots.

Of course, putting is for dough, and being capable on these Bermuda greens takes skill. Among the top contenders, DeChambeau has been an annual contender on such charts. Louis Oosthuizen ranks No. 1 in overall putting, but his start position (-2, eight strokes behind Cantlay) make it a tough road to the title.
