Slovakia launches vaccination lottery

    Slovakia launches vaccination lottery

A vaccination lottery will commence in Slovakia on 1 August 2021. If you’ve already taken it, or are expected to take the vaccine, you could be in with the chance of winning a sum of money, but no clear amount is stated on how much is at stake. The registration for the lottery will be open until 15 October, 2021.

“The prizes will be interesting, but we’ll publish them only shortly before the launch,” said Finance Minister Igor Matovič (OĽaNO).

Everybody willing to take part must register to enter, the registration process is open to any persons 18 or above who have been vaccinated and hold permanent residence in Slovakia. The type of vaccine an individual has received won’t be taken into account; the lottery is open to all those that are vaccinated.

The Finance Ministry reported that each and every registered person will remain in a database during the draw. Those who have taken two doses of the vaccine and are deemed as fully vaccinated will have an extra shot of winning, doubling their chances.

Anyone over the age of 18 with permanent residency in Slovakia can be entitled to a bonus if they manage to ‘persuade’ others to take the vaccine. Once the (persuaded) individual registers, they will receive a specific code they will give to the “mediator” or “persuasive person” to use, according to the ministry.

The mediator will receive between 30 ($35), 60 or 90 depending on the age of the vaccinated person. The “mediator” will only receive any bonuses once the persuaded has had both of their vaccination shots.

Slovakia seems to be in the swing of regulatory developments recently. Being a country that holds one of the strictest regulations in Europe regarding online gambling, this week the online gaming platform, Twitch, was banned due to illegal gaming.
