FanDuel Arizona Best Bet: Cardinals over 8.5 Wins (+105)
This futures bet is being offered on FanDuel right now, and the line will hopefully only move in our favor. Remember, you cannot bet in Arizona until the official launch projected on September 9th.
While the Cardinals play in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL, their schedule outside of the division isn’t too bad. They rank 13th in strength of schedule going into 2021, and they match up with the relatively weak AFC South in non-conference competition play.
In their own conference but out of their division, I’m eyeing potentially easy wins against Detroit, Houston, and Chicago. Moreover, they have some of their tougher battles at home, like against Green Bay and Minnesota.
While Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray have had an up-and-down tenure together in Arizona, I think they’ve figured out one thing: Rely more on the passing game. While Murray dominated on the ground last season (819 yards on 133 attempts), it’s Kingsbury’s air-raid offense that’s going to win games for the Cardinals.
This is why they shipped off Kenyon Drake and brought in AJ Green, who will be paired with DeAndre Hopkins. Green hasn’t been as effective recently as he was in the past, but the 33-year-old should get new life in this offense.
On the defensive side: The Cardinals lost Patrick Peterson, which will be a huge loss for the secondary. However, they’ve brought in former All-Pros Malcolm Butler and JJ Watt to “replace” him, and those two should produce immediately on the field with their talent and in the clubhouse with their veteran presence.
All-in-all, given their schedule and new-look roster, I see the Cardinals finishing 9-7 as a much more likely scenario than 8-8.
